Autopsy Results

Mark received the results of Melinda's liver autopsy tonight. She had cancer in over half of her liver causing liver failure. The cancer was very aggressive, she had a pet-scan (not sure if that is correct spelling)in April and everything looked great. And when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer she had had a mammogram only a year and a half before which also looked great. Some of you may know that Melinda was told a recurrence of cancer would likely be in her lungs, brain or bone. The Dr. said that this just shows they don't know everything about this terrible disease and sometimes it just does not follow the likely path.

I want to thank you on behalf of Mark for all your prayers, love and concern during this time. I know he feels very blessed to have such a wonderful church family and friends. He was very comforted by all the hugs at the funeral.

I would also like to thank all of those who have been there for me during the loss of my best friend. It is so hard to be without her but I am comforted to know that she is not suffering anymore is so happy to be home. We love you, Melinda!

Thanks Chas for posting this. You got it right - a PET scan (short for positron emission tomography) picks up tissues actively using energy (glucose) faster than surrounding tissues. Cancer cells tend to do that, so they light up on PET scans. A clear scan in April and a successful surgery in May means that this really bloomed in the last few weeks or so. While this is very upsetting news, it also provides a bit of closure, and with it hopefully, a bit of peace.
Melinda didn't cause this in choosing the surgeries that she did, decisions she and the family made when she was hospitalized didn't cause this, and the doctors treating her these past few weeks didn't make a mistake that caused this - rather they kept her with us for 3 more weeks with their heroic efforts. Time to see her kids, hug her family and friends - for us, one last phone call. We just didn't know at the time that we were saying goodbye.
I told my mom after we heard the news that she is the last one this monster gets to take. To honor my children's Aunt Melinda, my Aunt Carolyn, and my grandmother Reba - we have to find a cure. Please join me in your hearts today in this mission. I know there will be prayers - we need those too. But let the positive thoughts from those prayers inspire you to make this also your mission. Tell your friends and family to get checked regularly for this disease. Raise money for research to find a cure. Tell those that ask about your efforts about this wonderful woman that you knew that got too short of a life here with us, and that you don't want that to happen to anyone else if it is in your hands to eliminate this monster from this planet.
I love you Melinda. I miss you.

Chas:

You have been on my mind so much this last week. I have asked people all over the country to pray for Mark, the children, and their family,. I have also asked for special prayers for you and all of Melinda's devoted friends; I am so sorry for your loss!

I found some photos from college the other day. One was from a Halloween party when Melinda was dressed as a nurse (before she was one.) Mark was dressed as a farmer, straw hat and all. I will get copies of all photos and mail them to you and Mark for the kids.

When you get a chance (no hurry) please email me your address to jensuzharp@yahoo.com.

Love you,

HARP

I only met Melinda once, while visiting the Sam Noble Museum with my sister. But she has greatly affected my spirit and my life in ways that I am sure she did not expect. That day we met, she had such poise in the midst of her struggle with breast cancer. My sister spoke of her often as someone with much wisdom. She said that Melinda always made whoever she talked to feel like a very dear friend. I believe that. My family's prayers have been with the Evans family for some time, and we will continue to pray. It is the only gift I will ever give Melinda. Thank you for sharing her with all of us.

I never knew Melinda, but I am touched by the stories that have been shared here & on Amy Grant's site. (I am one of Amy's blog friends.) Anyway....if anyone wants to join the fight against cancer, check out the Relay For Life events - I have walked in 5 of these & it amazes me to hear the stories. Melinda will come to mind when I walk again next year.

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
